A former coworker of mine actually made a full PowerPoint presentation about herself to share with potential therapists during those free consults. It was a way to share her history and past experiences in therapy efficiently without exerting too much emotional energy early on.

She titled it “My Trauma” because it helped to sus out the therapists she definitely wasn’t going to jibe with right away (and also a little dark humor never hurt anybody 😂)

We need a “Tinder but for Therapists” situation to make this search process easier 😅. Thanks for sharing all this information!

This is hilarious and also brilliant! "My Trauma" 😂 reminds me of the trend on social media where friends get together and share PowerPoint presentations… this would be a QUICK way to get to know people.

This is wonderful. I appreciate all the labor and heart you put into this. And I’m also exercising will power around my tasks before I dive into the Bridgerton drop.

Super timely for me! Thanks for being so open about therapy. It was so stigmatized for me when I was a kid and needed it the most. I still struggle with those feelings a bit. I just had my first session in a long time last week and have another this afternoon. I'm trying virtual because it makes it too convenient to skip. However, since it's been during my lunch break it means sitting in my car in the work parking lot as the A/C struggles to keep up and coworkers wave to me on their way home. Awkward.

Curious if you've experienced the "therapy hangover" early on? After my first session I felt like garbage that night, like maybe I should've just kept all these feeeelllllings buried, you know?

I’m so glad this was helpful! I’m sorry to hear therapy was so stigmatized for you… unfortunately you’re not alone in that but I’m hopeful that it’s becoming more widely talked about and accepted! And CONGRATULATIONS on getting back into it, that is a HUGE step!!! Definitely give yourself a pat on the back. Even awkward car therapy is better than no therapy (I’ve found the car can also be a very nice place to cry, as long as it’s parked!).

And yes, to be honest, I sometimes still get a therapy hangover (I’m about a year in). I can be in a fairly good mood, then have a therapy session and end up crying and exhausted the rest of the day. In my experience though it’s better to bring those emotions to the surface in little chunks, rather than letting them build and build until they implode (i.e. what happened to me last July!). It does get easier, hang in there.

Thanks for reading!!

Therapy hangover, or a vulnerability hangover is what I call them, is super common —even for me, an ol therapy hag at this point.
